Here are some notes, if anybody's interested -

For the past year and a half I've been wanting to incorporate more instruments beyond just the clean guitar and samples. On this EP, I got pretty close to entirely acoustic (no amps, and only 3 software instruments - a kick drum and bass line on track one, and a crash on track 3).

It's hard naming instrumental albums because you don't really have lyrical themes to grab onto. I called this Pine partly because it's fall now, somehow, which always makes the evergreens stand out, and more-so since I've been out west for the final mixing; partly because the recordings are mostly acoustic and I wanted sort of an earthy/woody name to reflect that sound; partly because Pine's a verb too and I wanted to be moody.

This was all written as it was recorded, they're all still loops throughout, but I haven't tried playing them live, which is one of the self-imposed restrictions for this project - gotta be able to layer it all live. So it'll be a fun challenge chopping this up and playing them in real time, for the first time.

The writing process was pretty haphazard - Track 1 came together during one night back in April. Track 3 came together during one night in early September - then the next week was a sprint to finish writing and recording the whole thing before I left town. Finished recording the melodica about 5 hours before the bus left.
